women be not writing their newsletters
Hello friends, comrades, readers !! !
Ahhh to be bold, sexy, and confident that you can write a newsletter twice a month. I hope you still consider me a friend, despite the once again long hiatus. For the last two months I’ve been unhinged, going through a crisis, a 3 day hangover and a month long cringe episode, fighting my demons (nyc humidity), and basically just so overwhelmed that writing went to the bottom of my to do list. And now I am apartment hunting, once again. But I am ok! Which by my standards means pretty good.
A quick way to summarize my mental state is this text i sent my roommate during a night out, as i made the long journey to the st marks’ barcade. Mind you, it’s right across from the restaurant we frequent.
* also editor’s note, i was not alone! we were just a little lost and i was probably trying to type and talk at the same time* <3
Amidst all of this though I have not once stopped consuming media. Perhaps a lot more than my brain could process, and ended up becoming convinced that you all could read my thoughts. Because duh. However i am now on a journey to truly make two of these a month and if i don’t, u guys are allowed to leave 1 (one) mean but not too mean guilt-tripping comment on my ig.
Also before I forget, Substack released their app! Which means u can get the app and all ur newsletter reads in one place, no more emails unless u prefer that, idk up to u.
Before the recs start, i would like to say that i am so happy unicode added new emojis because i now have updated my favorite one. They should really make a spotify wrapped but for emojis bc baby i am in the top .01% of salute emoji users. In a moment of slight unhinge-ness, I did of course fall into a rabbit hole trying to find who made my new beloved emoji, only to be reminded that 99% invisible (great design podcast, high rec) made an episode about the people behind the committee for emojis and emoji proposals.
And I couldn’t just rest with a basic answer so I also found one of the salute emoji proposals pdf. Obsessed with the other uses for it bc honestly there are never enough.
Since this is a comeback issue (if one can call it that), I will keep my recs short and sweet, despite my deepest wishes to write up what I would consider love letters for said recs. Pls enjoy <3
Our Flag Means Death. Truth be told, even when i found out this show had Taika in it, potential queer rep, AND was a comedy about pirates, not even then did i rush to watch it. Something in me was like maybe just watch it while u fold laundry or do work u probs wont miss much. Queerbaiting and tumblr really did a number on me. Oh boy, how wrong i was. By now if you haven’t seen anything related to this show i just urge you to watch it. Ik legally i can’t pull the pride month card but i will, so pls watch and i will be more than happy to discuss. Also the Fleetwood Mac scene. no comment.
In a beautiful act of serendipity, last pod released a Blackbeard series just days after, high rec for something fun!
True Anon. Sometimes i think i come across as a massive bitch of leftist media. Naturally i don’t trust much that isn’t dumb entertainment so when it comes to politics, the mental gymnastics i gotta do are incredible. Anyway a little over a month ago, i was recommended a podcast! And I gotta say i love it enough that it’s my other patreon subscription. I’ve been binging True Anon for like the last month, starting from the first ep (something they make fun of in ep like 130 but whatever my brain wouldn’t let me start from the middle). The pod covers mainly the Epstein case, leftist politics, and anything and everything that might seem like a conspiracy. Major warning tho, it’s incredibly depressing despite their attempts to keep things from getting too dark, sometimes shit just be sad.
*bby side note 👁 if anyone happens to listen to this and wants to go to the nyc show in november, pls hmu.
Under the Banner of Heaven. If u are not watching Andrew Garfield solve a Mormon murder case while also having a faith crisis, close this and redirect ur attention to hulu dot com. This show is the perfect venn diagram of Andrew Garfield stans and true crime enthusiasts.
The Bob’s Burgers Movie. Watch it w ur friends/ alone/ high/ sober/ 1 time/ 5 times. idc but watch it. if u can’t make it to the movies and don't have hbo/hulu, i will gladly send u my log in info pls dm. (just checked again and it’s available for streaming starting 7/12
Are u an ny/east coaster bby? if so, you should check out big milk! A monthly-ish comix reading/standup/shorts gathering. Super cool, real nice, and makes me really want to do actual standup comedy (👁) the pipeline is real and i will be proof!
Tony Hawk’s hbo doc Until the Wheels Fall Off. My knowledge of Tony Hawk comes only from his tweets about people asking him if he’s Tony Hawk. The doc takes a look at his childhood, the skater scene, and his life as a skater, all while he attempts to once again do the 900. He did not need to pull at my heartstrings at the end.
A while back (ofmd time), i started learning morse code! Incredibly easy imo and a total vibe, sometimes my brain just needs to scratch an itch.
This beautiful NYMag profile on the man, the legend, Nathan Fielder. I’m a Nathan stan, and oh god what i would give to get to hang out with him at universal studios for a day. Probably my second born. Also i would be lying if i said i didn't cry while reading this.
Now as promised, or maybe you didn’t need to be bribed to read this, but i got a tattoo yesterday. Since this was my first tattoo, my roommate was kind enough to come along and take some pics! I promise i will share the actual tattoo pic on ig once it’s free of the clear bandage.

Okie, i will now for reals let you go. I hope you are able to find a good rec or something to watch/read/listen to this Sunday night. Thanks for still being subscribed and asking when i would write again. really means a lot <333
have a good week and see u soon! *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
